I recently enjoyed a "Feuerzangenbowle" at the Duisburg Christmas market. What is it, you ask? It might well be one of the best inventions ever: A tiny sugar cone is fastened to the rim of a cup that is filled with Gluehwein then rum is poured over it and the sugar cone is set on fire which causes the rum-soaked cone to melt and fall into your Gluehwein!
Gluehwein or Mulled Wine is something we Germans drink not only while visiting Christmas markets but also at home during the holiday season and on any other (cold) day. I'm often asked for a recipe, so here it is! Stay warm and enjoy! And if you do happen to have one (or two!) of these at a Christmas market, make sure you know which direction your Hotel is in!
