| The Harz is the highest mountain range in Northern Germany and its rugged terrain extends across parts of Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. The legendary Brocken is the highest summit in the Harz with a height of 1,141.1 metres (3,744 ft) above sea level. A steam train runs up to the top of the Brocken and the Hexenplatz (the Witches Dance place as described in Goethe's "Faust"). But the Harz is also known for its historic and very unique towns (some of which are Unesco sights), such as Wernigerode , Goslar and Quedlinburg. |

This article is a few years old now but nonetheless it is still applicable. It explains where exactly we live. To say that we live on top of a powder keg would be an understatement. (see M.Di Procida on the map).
Read more about Campi Flegrei. Recently we travelled to the Harz region of Germany to visit my brother who owns one of the most successfull Distilleries in the country. His products are of very high quality, made with the local spring water and minimized use of machinery (i.e. labels are attached by hand, bottles corked by hand etc). Many of the products are sold out before they are even finished. Here are some photos of our visit. To learn more, visit: http://www.hammerschmiede-spirituosen.de. I have made it a point to remind myself daily to be mindful. To act, react, interact and go about life mindfully. To speak to others mindfully, to think about my next action mindfully, to take a breath before I do anything. It has personally helped me to slow things down, put things in perspective. If you take the time to do this, it might reduce the stress in your life, too and just make you feel better overall...as a human being. After all, it is about the ride and not the destination. Right? Mindfulness is the practice of being present, being aware, being focused and intentional in everything we do in our lives, right down to the simplest and most mundane tasks and sensations. As our home is our sanctuary why not start there. Read on the Artemano blog how mindfulness can enhance our domestic life and how it can manifest itself in the home.
We are taught to believe that our modern lifestyle – which thrives on egoism, competition and inequality – is an improvement on the past. But considering the facts of the history of the human race, we may learn a thing or two from our egalitarian past. This article is the second part in a series investigating different ways of organizing human life on earth.
We are taught to believe that our modern lifestyle – which thrives on egoism, competition and inequality – is an improvement on the past. But considering the facts of the history of the human race, we may learn a thing or two from our egalitarian past. I recently read a very interesting article on this topic and would like to share it with you. It really is worth the read. Read it here.
I recently enjoyed a "Feuerzangenbowle" at the Duisburg Christmas market. What is it, you ask? It might well be one of the best inventions ever: A tiny sugar cone is fastened to the rim of a cup that is filled with Gluehwein then rum is poured over it and the sugar cone is set on fire which causes the rum-soaked cone to melt and fall into your Gluehwein!
Gluehwein or Mulled Wine is something we Germans drink not only while visiting Christmas markets but also at home during the holiday season and on any other (cold) day. I'm often asked for a recipe, so here it is! Stay warm and enjoy! And if you do happen to have one (or two!) of these at a Christmas market, make sure you know which direction your Hotel is in! |
