I tried to find a translation for this unique German word. There are many words in German that don't translate. Because it is hard to translate a feeling. To me it means: "a lust for living, having fun being alive". What do you think it means?
...in the language of your choice: http://www.thelocal.it. A great little online resource. However, not sure if I agree with the weather forecast. Another heat wave! NO grazie!
Iserlohn in the Sauerland Region - my German home town.
Can't wait to visit! In walking distance of our new home is Torregaveta Beach! A great place to swim, "people watch" or have a sunset picnic (with a glass of wine, of course). It seems to be a popular spot for photo sessions. If you are hungry for a little something have a gelato or a panini at the first little restaurant on the corner. Rafaele, the owner and life long resident of Torregaveta will talk to you in Italian until your ears fall off. And NO, he does not care, if you understand him or not. We really enjoy going there!
We were told that Lago D'Averno was a great place to walk the dog. So we set out one night to walk around this beautiful lake (about 2-3 km). The path is lined with vineyards and fruit trees, oleander bushes. A natural oasis and wildlife habitat. On the shoreline, we saw a Roman ruin. There was no mention of it anywhere, no plaque to explain what it was. We learned later that it is in fact the Temple of Apollo. WHAT? And if that wasn't enough, we found out that according to Roman mythology Lago D'Averno was considered the entrance to "The Underworld". Oh, and did I mention that it was also a volcanic crater. The things you stumble upon.....while walking the dog:) While walking around Lago D'Averno, we noticed all these little gates...entrances to vineyards (we think). Tables set up under grapevines as if food was going to be served any minute yet it looked so magically undisturbed. l just LOVED this setting! The wilted roses in the front, the berries on and around the table as if someone placed them there. And then the long path through the vineyard.
"Wine brings to light the hidden secrets of the soul, gives being to
our hopes, bids the coward flight, drives dull care away, and teaches new means for the accomplishment of our wishes." Horace Roman philosopher, (65-8 BC)... I was walking the dog just around the corner from the Hotel when I saw the most curious site. This little beauty backing into a driveway! Turns out Fi-Fi is 25 years old and belongs to some lovely British ladies, who graciously allowed me on their property (behind the gate:) to take this photo after I told them that I was a florist! I LIKE FI-FI!!!
